The Red Thread Project is an opportunity to create art while performing a community service. Knit or crochet a hat to be connected to red cord over a quarter mile long. Wear a hat in the large-scale, public performance at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 30 at Rosa Parks Circle. View the joined hats in an exhibition at UICA. Finally, the hats will be detached and given to organizations in our community for distribution to people with cancer.

The Red Thread Project is being organized in Grand Rapids by ArtWorks and the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA). Originator of the project is Lindsay Obermeyer a fiber artist in Chicago. Lindsay has been spending a lot of time in Grand Rapids in connection with the project and will be back for the Performance at 7:00 p.m. on June 30, 2006.
